About Me

I have been an avid photographer in the Santa Cruz, California area for over 45 years. When I wasn’t making photographs for fun and display, I operated a wedding and portrait photography business in the 80s and early 90s. After nearly a decade and a half of transporting what amounted to a portable studio to wedding locations and packing in multiple medium format film cameras and lighting gear, I was faced with a choice — either upgrade the equipment and go digital, or get out. While I initially loved most everything about wedding and portrait photography and the many challenges it presented, I realized it was important to get back to what I enjoy most — capturing images of my own liking when the inspiration and opportunity arise.  

That proved to be a good move because now I'm in a position to entertain the possibility that you or someone else might find one or more of these photographs interesting or appealing. That’s what matters most. I have always been in awe of great photography and the confluence of vision, light, subject matter, composition, timing and technical capability that’s required to make a moving and memorable photograph. That’s what keeps me trying and keeps the fire burning.
